Working together to help growing minds, bodies, and souls!
Welcome back! In previous posts, I've explored a little bit about 'how food connects us.' Today, I'd like to focus on an important subtopic impacting 'how food nourishes us' called food insecurity.
According to Feeding America, food insecurity describes a household's inability to provide enough food for every person to live an active, healthy life. Food insecurity measures and assesses the risk of hunger.
"In the United States, 1 in 9 people struggle with hunger impacting families, seniors, and children." - Feeding America
School cafeterias is a commonplace where hunger is seen amongst children. Check out my classmate Molly Brooks' Fighting Food Insecurity Blog where she as a school nutrition professional aka lunch lady witnesses hunger everyday amongst her students.

The Fighting Food Insecurity Blog provides:
Resources on how to educate children on food insecurity fostering feelings of empathy and compassion
Information on federal meal programs (i.e. National School Lunch Program)
Important USDA Food and Nutrition Service announcements on feeding hungry students
Insight on what feeding school children looks like during a pandemic
And much more!
We all can make a difference and Molly's perspective is inspirational on how we can work together and get involved to fight hunger together - check it out!
